Painting Your Chrome Housing Black

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: 4.25 STARS

Step 1:

Clean headlight with 100% Terry Cloth Towel, and take out the bulb.

Step 2:

Pre Heat oven to 350 Degrees

Step 3:
Make sure to remove all that is possible including the tiny screws along the edges

Step 4:

Set timer for 5 minutes and insert headlight.

Step 5:

When timer finishes take the headlight out and put it on a flat surface. While the headlight is still hot, start pulling the front lens off. Start at the edges and then move on to the clips. You will have to use a flat head screw driver to loosen the grip or the silicone. Make sure you go all around the headlight.

Step 5:
By the time you have started to pull apart the housing it is very hard, so you put it back in the oven for 3 minutes.

Step 6:

After pulling the pieces make sure that no silicone fell into the housing. After that take a flat head screwdriver and slowly and lightly pull the chrome piece away headlight housing.

Step7:
Make sure to take off the plastic turn signal piece. Start from the corner and you will see clips. Just work your way there for a minute and your fine.

Step 8:
After taking out the chrome housing make sure that you sand down all surfaces as much as possible.

Step 9:

Lightly sand down the chrome area of the housing until smooth with no imperfections. I used Dupli-Color Grey Engine Primer, to prime the housing. Spray 1-2 thin coats of primer for the meanwhile, and after 15 minutes put a thick coat covering the whole housing.

Step 10:

Let the primer dry for a good 18-24 hours and then go to a well ventilated area (i.e. out side) and spray paint the housing. Move in a horizontal motion. With the Dupli-Color Flat Black paint I applied 2 thin coats followed by a thick coat within 10 minutes. Make sure you cover the whole housing at once because you have to wait 12-16 hours for it to dry.

Step 11:
If needed apply a coat or Dupli-Color High Heat Clear Coat. 2 Even coats should be enough.

Step 12:
Make sure that you put the turn signal lens. Start from the corners and make sure it clips in.

Step 13:
Slowly put the painted black piece against the lens. I will fit right. Re heat the oven to 350 Degrees for 3 minutes. Then slowly push the housing together. For more security use a LITTLE bit of silicone.

Step 14:
Start by pushing the lexon lens on to the housing. Start from the top corner then go to the other corner. PUSH SLOWLY AND SOFTLY. When the corners are semi secure push together the top and bottom.

Step 15:

Put back into the oven for 3 minutes at 350 degrees.

Step 16:

While it is still hot push the pieces together so there will be a nice snug fit. Then make sure that all of the clips are back together.

Step 17:
Clean off all excess glue off of the lens.

BY NOW YOU ARE PROBABLY TIRED SO HAVE A NICE COLD MEXICAN BEER, or maybe American what ever floats your boat.
